The Cernan Earth and Space Center has been a shining star on Triton College’s campus since 1974. The center, which is features a fulldome planetarium, exhibits, classrooms and more, serves the educational curriculum of Triton’s students, as well as provides educational and fun shows to the community on various astronomy-related topics.

The Cernan Earth and Space Center – named after former astronaut Eugene Cernan, the last man to leave his footprints on the moon – now shines brighter than ever following recent upgrades to its facility. Solar panels were installed in 2014 to the exterior of the Cernan Earth and Space Center building, and most recently, a new and exciting projection system was installed.

The solar panels supports Tritons mission of becoming more sustainable, while also providing students with a hands-on learning opportunity, as the college looks to add new academic programs focused on renewable energy – a growing industry as the demand for renewable energy sources increases.

In May 2015, the Cernan Earth and Space Center debuted a new and exciting projection system that fills the entire planetarium dome, while also providing a new learning vehicle for Triton’s students.

The new system allows for faculty across multiple disciplines to creatively utilize the projection system in their academic curriculum.
